Course Description
CEE 100: Statics (Required for a BSCE degree)

Introduction to engineering problems and their solutions through a study of the statics of particles and rigid bodies. Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits.
Prerequisite
Math 211 (Calculus I)
Co-requisite: PHYS 231N (University Physics)
Textbook(s) and/or Other Required Material
Vector Mechanics For Engineers (6th edition), by Beer & Johnston, McGraw-Hill.
Course Objectives
Students completing this course successfully will be able to

  1. draw free body diagrams of truss, beam, and/or frame structures,
  2. use equilibrium equations to analyze 2-d and 3-d engineering problems,
  3. find moment at any point in a 2-d and/or 3-d structure,
  4. find the centroids of 1-d, 2-d, and 3-d objects,
  5. find reaction forces and/or moments at the support for 2-d and 3-d problems,
  6. find member forces of truss structures (using methods of joints, sections),
  7. draw shear, moment diagrams for beams, under various loading and different boundary conditions,
  8. analyze and solve frictional problems,
  9. find the moment of inertias of cross sections with various geometries.
